Revision of END-SURE Race Bible from Sun, 02/07/2016 - 11:03

March 19 2016, Leonard, ND

Race Summary: A beautiful trail run with 100K, 50K, and 25K options.  100K race takes in the entire length of the Sheyenne National Grasslands section of the North Country Trail, SW of Fargo North Dakota.  Sections of wide open prairie, pockets of forest, and rugged, rolling 'sandhills' keep the race interesting.  This event is North Dakota's longest footrace and first ultramarathon. The date makes the shorter 50K and 25K options great early season training or final long run leading up to Zumbro.

Location: Sheyenne National Grasslands, approx. 45 minutes SW of Fargo, ND.  Base at Sheyenne Oaks Horse Camp (6050 County Road 23, Leonard, ND).  Here's a Map.  During the inaugural year (mid March) runners faced over a foot of brand new snow on the trail.  We've moved the date a bit later in the spring but you should still be prepared for an 'all conditions race.' Yeah, it is possible that the trail will be dry and in awesome conditions, but it isn't exactly likely.  While we expect some sections of dry and fast runnig, we also expect challenging sections of the race including plenty of miles of 'spring conditions'.

Rough END-SURE elevation profile (click for larger).  Arrows show directions of 2014 race.  2015 race was the same for 100K; 50K was an out-and-back on the right half (starting from far right); 25K started in the middle and ended at the far right.

Lodging: Some accommodation is available in Lisbon ND, which is about 25 minutes from race start.  Fargo, ND is the nearest major city with ample accommodation options and is about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the race start.

Event Waiver: Waivers will be available online before the race.  Please print one and fill it out and bring it to pre-registration/registration.  We will have extras in the event you forget.  You will not be allowed to race without a signed waiver.

Other details:  Although there will be several aid stations, racers should be prepared to be self-sufficient and will be required to carry a minimum amount of gear (gear list).  This gear list may be modified prior to race day depending on weather forecasts and/or actual race day conditions.
